Nymphs and Satyr
I’ve always admired Bouguereau’s famous painting ‘Nymphs and Satyr’ and while Bouguereau’s working methods and style were traditional, this work is I think a wonderfully rhythmical composition.
The painting was exhibited in Paris in 1873, just one year before the Impressionists mounted their first exhibition and impressionist paintings must have seemed very radical by contrast. The painting is now owned by and is on display at the Clark Institute in Massachusetts.
