Being the mother of a 1 year old girl myself, I thought it was special to learn that the famous Dutch furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld spent his time not only designing for clients but also for his own and other children.
This baby chair was designed in 1918 and manufactured in 1921-1922. The chair was created for the in 1921 born Hendrikus Johannes Witeveen, who later became the Dutch minister of Finance.
The chair has been bought by the Central Museum Utrecht and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The Museums believe the chair was a key piece in the oeuvre of Rietveld. Shortly after this baby chair, Rietveld designed his famous RedBlue Chair.
The other photographs show another great high chair and toys that Rietveld designed in the 1920’s for both his own children and clients
