— Leica 0-Series & 1 Model C Luxus

The first image is of Leica engineer Oskar Barnack at his workplace.

This is followed by an image of the Leica 0-series, Leica’s seventh camera (designed in 1923).

Around 25 of these were produced to test the market two years before the full production of the Leica A. It is the only camera known with ‘Germany’ engraving on the top plate. The factory record indicates delivery to New York for patent application. (Source Westlicht Vienna).

The rather more beautiful camera that follows is the Oskar Barnack Leica 1, Model C Luxus from 1930.

It’s construction is a gold plated metal body covered with lizard skin. It is one of only ninety five made (between 1929 and 1931).
