THE ENGLISH GROUP: PROJECT UPDATES
28/05/04 PROJECT UPDATE: ROYAL MAIL
On May 25th, the Royal Mail announced its new stamps to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society. The Presentation Packs, First Day Cover designs and bespoke postmark roundels have all been designed by The English Group. The design process has been an intensely involved process, including detailed research into the resources held within the Royal Horticultural Society's archives at Wisley.
The stamps themselves feature six of the nine types of plant for which the RHS is the official international registrar of cultivar names - and all of these plants have an important part in garden history and are cultivated enthusiastically by British Gardeners. The designs for the Presentation Pack provide further illustration of the pressed specimens and other reference that the RHS maintains to define standards for but two of these plants; namely Pinks and Carnations, and Clematis.
The English Group is especially proud of these design solutions and the opportunity to work with the Royal mail on such a prestigious project.
