The English Group has produced two versions of a Limited Edition book to accompany a major lifetime retrospective of the movie photographs of Cornel Lucas at the National Portrait Gallery in the UK. The agency has also produced the exhibition poster which is now on display throughout the London Underground.

The Limited Edition book has a Foreword written by Lord Puttnam and an additional ‘Personal Perspective’ by the legendary cinematographer Jack Cardiff. The main text of the book is by Marc Carter, The English Group’s creative director. The edition is restricted to just 1000 copies. This 196pp book illustrates 152 pages of portraits spanning a career which represents a legacy of almost 60 years of continuing excellence in the UK film industry. There is also a Deluxe Limited Edition version of the publication which comprises the first 200 copies, and is signed by Lord Puttnam, Jack Cardiff and Cornel Lucas. The Deluxe Edition includes a second case bound monograph featuring Cornel’s photographs taken on the set of Powell & Pressburger’s ‘The Red Shoes’ in 1947, and a second series of studies of three Royal Ballet productions (Onedine, Firebird and Swan Lake) which all starred a young Margot Fonteyn. Many of the portraits in both books have never previously been published in print.

On Tuesday 18th October, the National Portrait Gallery held a Champagne Reception to honour Cornel Lucas's superlative body of work. On the Friday of the same week, The English Group hosted its own party for 200 at the agency's new premises on the Hartham Park estate in Corsham, just outside of Bath.
