THE ENGLISH GROUP: PROJECT UPDATES

20/03/07   NEWS UPDATE:   HSPG DESIGN AND PRINT AWARDS

On Tuesday 6th March, Howard Smith Paper Group hosted its Awards Dinner at The Century Club in London. The English Group was recognised with three Nominations in the Fine Art Publishing category. The book 'Shooting Stars', a portfolio of the movie star portraiture of Cornel Lucas produced for the National Portrait Gallery, was the category winner. Read more about the book here.

The other two projects nominated included another Limited Edition book for Deloitte, for the Annual CBI Conference, entitled 'Heads Of Business'. This book detailed photographic portraits and biographies of 39 of the most influential business leaders in the UK, all photographed by Harry Borden. Read more here.

The final nomination was for 'Eve & Marilyn: The Photographic Portraits Of Eve Arnold', a monograph produced for guests attending a Private Champagne Reception to open an exhibition of the photographs at 195 Piccadilly. Read more here.

To quote the Judges Comment from Howard Smith Paper's Awards publication:

"In what turned out to be an excellent category, four pieces made the final table, 'Heads Of Business' and the 'Marilyn & Eve' books were very close to winning. However, after much consideration, the judges agreed that due to the high quality of printing, consistency of solids, and excellent binding, the 'Cornel Lucas' book just prevailed. We would like to make a special mention for the three other finalists, who on any other day, may have won."
