THE ENGLISH GROUP: PROJECT UPDATES

21/09/08   PROJECT UPDATE:   PEACE DIRECT: MAKE YOUR PEACE

Make Your Peace

When working with Bryan Adams to complete a photographic essay for the National Portrait Gallery, detailing some of the UK's most inspiring women, we had the pleasure to meet Scilla Elworthy, the founder of the charity Peace Direct, and one of the world's most renowned experts in conflict resolution. Scilla has in fact been nominated on three occasions for the Nobel Peace Prize. The English Group is proud to have been asked to create a new website for the charity.

The UN has recognised the 21st of September as a global day of peace, and peace charities and NGOs the world over are creating initiatives designed to raise awareness of the day and its goals. Peace Direct has come up with the pleasingly simple idea of providing people all over the world with an online resource through which they can reach out and acknowledge - or even perhaps apologise to - those that they might have come into conflict with at some point previously. The site also allows its visitors to post stories describing conflicts in their own lives, and detail as to how ultimately resolving that conflict is often the best option by far.

The English Group has also worked to provide all design support for Peace One Day, including printed materials for this cause's concert at the Royal Albert Hall this Sunday. For more information, please click here.
